I don't often say that so make the most of it! Last summer we had a discussion about Vincas. You contended they were a ground cover while I said mine were tall like a bush. Well there must be 2 different types. Last night when I was tidying up one of the flower beds and watering I noticed my white Vinca (which is about 3 ft tall now after having been planted in that spot in 2003) had the same musty, stale scent a ground cover my mom had next to the house when Iwas a little kid. It took me back to my childhood instantly and reminded me of what you had said. So in a sense we were both right I guess and it stems from the fact there are different strains of the same plant. Does your ground cover variety have a bright pink flower on it? I have white ones and multi-shades of pinks, almost purple on the one. They live year to year here and get bigger every year.

gae delivered mums to my house this past summer, and while touring my yard, I described to her what I'd planted: "this a red bush, this is a plant that has yellow flowers, this is green stuff."

    Seriously.

I'm not exactly and expert on such matters, and I'm not quite sure what color the vinca flowers are, though I do know they produce flowers. I'm thinking they are purplish/pink, but don't quote me on that. It spreads every year and never dies over the winter. But I do know it's vinca

Greg, Reason and I have actually agreed on a lot of things in the past. We have different approaches to interacting with others on this board is our biggest difference. And he has misinterpreted some of my qualities for something they are not. I don't like to classify people (in general I try not to, I do have some prejudices I admit) or put everything into neat little categories, while he tends to see things in stereotype mode. Each to his own....

I remember that when I took a guided tour of the Indian Burial Mounds they pointed out vinca major as one of the indigenous ground covers in the area.

I would believe that there are multiple varieties, but I know that the vinca ground cover exists. And it has flat small light purplish (almost mauve) flowers, with I think four petals (maybe five).

It would thrive in a garden here because the climate suits it. A hardy and attractive ground cover.

I think a vinca bush would be lovely.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's ok, greg. GL is right in that we have agreed on things in the past, but we have different approaches to things. I have a tendency to accept things as they are and say what they are without judgment, an area where GL has difficulty.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I have white ones, pink ones and purple ones. One of the white ones was about 2" tall when my brother took it from a vacant yard in 2003. It's now about 3' tall and 3' in diameter. The other ones I just planted earlier this year and then moved some of them, so by next year they will be huge. They have no pleasant scent unfortunately, but provide a lot of color most of the year here. And they can take the summer heat, something most bedding plants wilter in...
